We saw the monster this season but didn’t know we were looking at it? Does this mean the monster is something other than Smokey?

Has anyone mentioned the other “Jack” at the end of the finale??
Could the monster be manifested as the different animals we’ve seen (i.e. Kate’s horse)? Maybe the monster analyzed the Losties memories and created an illusion for itself in those animals.
Just a guess.
