Last week’s Lost episode “Flashes Before Your Eyes” showed us how Desmond re-lived flashes of his past. The episode was great, but quite different to what we’ve gotten used to, so I’m sure a few of you will be happy to find out that this week’s episode continues where “Not in Portland” left off.
With the surprising help of Alex and Juliet, Kate and Sawyer have escaped from “Alcatraz” island on a small boat together with Alex’s boyfriend Karl. Meanwhile, Jack faces the consequences of threatening to kill Ben to save his friends…
Tonight, Lost Season 3 continues with the Jack centric episode “Stranger in a Strange Land“. The official description is as follows:
Minor spoilers
A power play ensues between Jack and “The Others” as Juliet’s future hangs in the balance. Meanwhile, Kate, Sawyer and Karl continue on their journey away from “Alcatraz,” on “Lost,” WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21 – 10:00-11:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
If you don’t mind spoilers, and want something to wet your appetite while you wait for the episode to air, you can take a look at a preview of “Stranger in a Strange Land” here.
Those of you who are regular Lost Blog readers already know the drill – feel free to discuss the episode in the comments and expect a few posts with my thoughts and theories tomorrow morning. Have fun!
I don’t think it will be a spoiler since it will be discussed in the episode tonight, but has anyone looked at Jack’s tat before? do we have a picture? no stone left unturned right?
Tonight’s episode SUCKED and I am thisclose to not watching this show anymore. I’ll still DVR it and watch it at a later time but I am just furious! The show answered NO questions except about Jack’s stupid tattoos, which were totally cliche. Yes, we get it, he’s a leader…we figured that out in the very first episode in Season 1! Why he got the crap kicked out of him is beyond me but it answers nothing. What were the flight attendant and other Tail-ee’s watching? Why was Juliette marked and what did the ensignia mean? I am sick to death of the love story between Kate and Sawyer and could not care less about it. I’m just so frustrated. This episode promised answers and let me down so much. Last week’s episode was so awesome that I figured this week would follow suit but it did not. What a waste of time. Gag me with the star-crossed lover crap. I can see that on any other TV drama.
If you want to get mad at somebody, get mad at the ABC promo people. I get so angry when they promise the best episode ever every single week–I think it just sets up Lost for criticism. Just let us watch the show without all the expectations!
I enjoyed the episode, but the flashbacks left me cold. Yeah, why did Jack get the crap kicked out of him for getting a stupid tattoo? The flashback was just shallow and barely worth the time, but I thought that the episode overall was about average, nothing to freak out about either way.
I am a bit confused as to why Jack INSISTED on getting the tattoo. Did he really have to be that aggressive about getting that stupid tattoo? Also, what questions were answered tonight? I didn’t notice anything coming full circle tonight. And one more thing, is it weird to anyone else that when Jack, Sawyer, Kate have alone time with an ‘Other’ they don’t ask any questions about their situation? I love this show but I hope things get better!
A sub-par episode overall.
…What were the flight attendant and other Tail-ee’s watching? Why was Juliette marked and what did the ensignia mean?…
Cindy and the rest of the miscellaneous people were watching Juliet’s trial. I believe she was “marked” (looked like a branding to me) to show her as a criminal/murderer.
In general, I agree that the love stories have grown tired and are no longer interesting. It seems as though Sawyer and Kate have finally gotten past their issues, just in time to return to the rest of the Losties.
I agree that ABC overhypes every episode. “3 of the islands biggest mysteries will be revealed!” was definitely exaggeration. The only mysteries that I could see explained were Jack’s tattoo, what happened to Cindy and the children, and that The Others only work on “Alcatraz.” I wouldn’t consider any of those among the islands biggest mysteries, but I honestly wasn’t expecting much.
“We had a surgeon, his name was Ethan.” That line make me lol.
The biggest questions raised in the episode are:
Who is Isabel? (It’s been mentioned before, but she does bear a striking resemblence to the Jewler from last weeks episode)
Was that big boat the same boat that was used to kidnap Walt from way back in Season 1?
Have we seen the last of Jack and Juliet? Are they going “home,” ala Michael/Walt? (Not likely, as Jack has promised to be Ben’s doctor.)
Was Alex in a cage at the end?
Why wouldn’t Kate and Sawyer ask Karl about room #23?!?!
Anyway, yeah I’m disappointed, but I’m also very much looking forward to next week and getting back to Locke and Sayid, my two favorite characters.
I liked the episode but after last week’s smashing reveal, I was not expecting it to live up to the network’s hype (I try to ignore that stuff). Not every episode can be a powerhouse. Let’s face it we are not going to get all the answers and I for one do not want them. They did explain that taking people is the Others’ way of giving folks a better life than they might otherwise have on the beach, but why were the new Others “watching”? I am sure we will find out later. Jack is marked and now so is Juliet, but who is going to see her back? A six pointed star…Catholic reference? Got some research to do. I assume Jack was beat up because getting a tatoo from someone with the gift is forbidden unless you are a native or a member of the “club”? Looking forwad to getting back to the beach next week.
I am not sure why I watch this show anymore. This show just becomes increasingly more complex, without any answers. The show’s writers need to get their act together and answer some REAL questions before people stop watching. There haven’t been enough glimpses of a connected plot to convince me that the writers know where the show is going. The latest episode didn’t answer 3 questions like it said it would. As frustrated as I am, the only thing I can think of is that there is an issue with “time” shift on the show. Like maybe the Others are in the future where time moves faster. Beyond that, I don’t know. Another theory is that the island has this seductive choke-hold on viewers, making them watch a frustrating show to see what happens when people watch each week and get no answers.
Maybe it’s just me, but there have been a few tv shows and a lot of movies that started out great but dropped the ball while revealing answers to big questions/ endings. When this show first started, I remember telling myself “I just hope this doesn’t turn into some insane storyline about aliens and supernatural crap”. Well, so far no aliens but possibly time travel? yawn.
I am not going to pretend to spend as much time on this show as people who run internet blogs, like this one, so I won’t try to dissect the script all night. But, there was something very primitive about the first season. People, on an island, chopping wood and finding food…all the while, letting us into their pasts. It was great to watch the stories tie together. And, every so often, a polar bear.
Obviously we were set up for something drastic, but time travel? What happened to the cast playing off each other? 45 minutes on a guy who was missing from 95% of the first season? Had I known this was what they were going for (traveling through time) I would have rather popped in a Quantum Leap dvd. This show, for me, lost it’s spark.
I think some viewers out there should just take a deep breath and relax. Let me ask you this, taking what we’ve seen so far in the first 2 seasons and 9 episodes of season 3, how many shows out there even come close to being this good as a whole? There are going to be episodes that aren’t that good. You have to take the good with the bad. The “flashes before your eyes” episode was amazing. This weeks episode was far from it. The only thing I have bad to say about it is the “false advertising” saying 3 secrets will be revealed. Very disappointing going into an episode thinking it was going to be like “flashes” and being let down. They shouldn’t hype up an episode unless they are sure it will deliver. I leave you with this…..to the people always crying that they want the major secrets revealed…please stop complaining because if the network gets enough complaints they will be forced to reveal secrets earlier than planned and the show will come to an end early.
I know the episode wasn’t the greatest but your acting like it was the worst thing ever. Not every episode can be like the last two. I hate when after one so-so episode people get mad and say that they might not watch the show anymore but when it has a great episode they say its the best show ever. If your going to like the show like but if your just going to turn your back on it when it falls a little short on an episode then I don’t think you really like the show to begin with.
I agree that not every episode can be a powerhouse. I am one of those people who love this show and I don’t want to know everything yet. Keep mystery alive…yes we have seen these people (j,s,and k) for maybe a little to many episodes in a row…but they are still great actors and it is still arguably one of the best show on earth. How’s that for a run-on?
Has everyone lost there mind or what? this show has more twists than pikes peak. I have only one request tell me what killed Mr Echo? “The Island” give me a break. If the writers want to keep my attention tell me what the big black cloud was that Echo backed down a while back. And why is there no permanent residence for these guy’s,even Gilligan had a hut!!! I guess We will never know cause I think the producers are lost as well.
This is a VERY BAD episode. Those Thai people better have something to do or related to the LOST island. If not, wasting the whole episode telling us Jack is getting his tattoo from Thailand is just absolutely unacceptable for the show like LOST.
And, those tattoo didn’t give us any new information !!!
I too am disappointed. My disappointment lies in the network’s promo lies. I do not think they reveal “three of the island’s biggest (note: biggest?) mysteries”. I never once wondered about(or really noticed) Jack’s tattoo. I still don’t know what they are doing with the children, though they look well cared for. I love this show and will continue watching. Last week’s episode was amazing, this week’s not so much. I would just like to connect more dots before I forget storylines or lose interest.
I am a huge fan of Lost. That being said tonights episode was easily one of the worst. Not in terms of a lack of revealing huge mysteries but in terms of contrived story line. Why in gods name would Jack care SO much about getting the tattoo. Just a poor episode as far as Im concerned. Regardless of that Lost is still a great show and I can probably say that its the best show on TV. Frankly Im not sure I want any answers. What I like so much about the show is that I dont know whats going on. If any story can set up a mystery that I actually CARE about and cant figure out on my own then Im hooked. I love it when I can lay in bed and say “What the hell was that all about!?”
Ill leave you with this; Twin Peaks was an AMAZING show and until Lost no other show had come close to being as good. However, the network forced the creators to reveal answers before they had planned because of viewer outcry. Once the answers had been given there was NOTHING LEFT.
Without the questions Lost too would be NOTHING.
I have no qualms about calling crap when I see crap. I thought a Bernard/Rose episode was as exciting as you’d think two old farts courting could be, and don’t get me started on the tired trips back to Sun&Jin.
But this episode? I thought it ruled. Why? It wasn’t mindblowing like the last two episodes were, and that is exactly why I loved it. In between the large mythology episodes, smaller character studies are needed, and this provided. Boo hoo, everything wasn’t spelled out to you. Use your brains. Use your hearts.
neW!!!!!!!
I have to agree that “Stranger in a Strange Land” wasn’t very impressive.
In my opinion the problem wasn’t that the episode sucked like some feel, but that too little happened during the episode. I always want the episodes to go on longer than they do, but this time it felt like we didn’t really get anywhere. The whole Thailand thing could have been cut down quite a bit.
At least we now know a bit more about Jack’s tattoos, hehe.
Overall I liked the episode and thought it was good. However, there certainly were NOT answers to 3 mysteries. Jack’s tattoos were the only mystery directly confronted and even then only partially (assuming Jack left Thailand after getting beaten up, the girl only made that one line of Chinese writing on his arm – so where did that compass-like symbol come from??)
I think it’s clear the boat is not the one given to Michael and Walt. This one is much bigger. Reminds me of the commericial supply transports used in the offshore oil rig industry.
“Ben calls it ‘home’” has many possible meanings. Remeber he promised Jack to take him ‘home’. Jack probably thinks back the the States. Ben means wherever the Others normally live. So when Ben told Michael to go in a direction and he will “find rescue” I think it supports my idea that Michael and Walt aren’t out of this environment.
As for the marking, clearly a branding but an unusual shape and location. Besides being a mark to show her crime, I think it’s there for 2 other reasons: First, in the location (on the small of her back) it will be very painful as it heals. And even when healed the scar tissue will have some impact on her mobility. So she is always reminded of her deed. Second, and I say this not to be crude or suggestive, in that location on the small of her back there could be a sexual implication. Use your imagination.
Two cents: when in time did Jack get his tattoos–before or after his marriage? Before or after his rfirst run-in with Desmond? Were there any “Easter Eggs” given last night? I don’t remember seeing any numbers or any other characters that mixed in with Jack in his flashbacks. I kept trying to figure out what prompted those memories in the first place. I mean you have Jack in a cage thinking about a Thai girl. He pushed the same button that Sawyer pushed, but only twice. Why was that significant? He was placed into the same cage where he saw Sawyer an Kate get together, yet he has no clear reaction to that incredibly emotional issue. You have Jack contemplating whether he should tell on Juliet, but remembering a tattoo. How are the flashbacks connected to the events on the island? While he was in Thailand, was he facing similar dilemmas–I don’t think so. For some reason, the white-haired lady knows how to read and speak Chinese. Somehow that is important.
Besides those efforts to TRY to like last night’s episode, an added boo! — The boat ride back to the island was ridiculous. Would anyone on the writing team have considered that a landing spot on the big island would have to show some evidence of use by the Others? Instead, Kate, Sawyer and Karl saw no trails, no evidence at all of people. If there were Others anywhere remotely near that spot, all the shouting and smoke and crying should have alerted someone–a sentry, at least– that people were near.
I join the other disappointed fans in thinking that some basic connections to good storytelling have been ignored.
I agree with those that said this episode was a bit of a let down compared to the last few episodes, but I liked a lot of it. However, to me, the ending of the episode was the WORST that I can remember of any Lost episodes. With the editing of the shots to show the connections between Alex & Karl, Sawyer & Kate, and Jack & Juliet. Very cheesy and better suited for Grey’s Anatomy or some other such drivel (no offense to those who like Grey’s Anatomy). I believe there were two women who wrote this episode, if I remember the credits correctly. Perhaps this has something to do with the emphasis on the love stories, which I could not care less about (no offense to any women out there).
Regarding the “answers to three mysteries†– as others have said, this claim was made by ABC’s promo department, not the creators of the show. In fact, during the podcast from earlier this week, Damon and Carlton seemed surprised to hear such a claim, and said the only “mystery†answered is how Jack got his tattoos.
I didn’t enjoy the flashback much at all, and hope that there is some further explanation as to why Jack got beat up and how this ties into the show. Is that girl’s gift somehow related to the Island/Dharma/the Others? The main point of the flashback, I believe, is the translation of the tattoos given at the end “He walks among us but he is not one of us†or something like that. This applied to his situation in Thailand, but also to his situation with the Others. I believe Jack will be living with them for the near future at least, so that translation is applicable. But Jack said something like “that’s not what it meansâ€, and I’m not sure what he meant by that.
I too was disappointed.
Lost has jumped the shark.
It’s now a soap opera, where the only interest is who’s gonna sleep with who. The Losties have lost interest in asking any questions about the island. You’d think that they would thoroughly question Karl, and then offer to help him fetch Sally Slingshot.
Jack was told during the operation that the others were able to leave the island until the sky turned purple. Jack doesn’t want to pursue this fact?
The previous episode with Des was a blatant rip-off of the Matrix. The writers are desperately searching for plot devices.
I just want to know the final story. I won’t watch any more episodes and just wait until it’s all revealed in the end. Let’s hope it won’t be X-files deja vu.
Joel – Kate wanted to sail around the island but Sawyer chose to land there to make camp for the night. The main island is a big place. Others can’t be everywhere.
BTW – When Jack was in the cage and he saw the people standing around outside, did anyone else catch the glimpse of the brown teddy bear the kid was carrying? That looked like the same brown teddy bear we’ve seen many times before as it relates to the children and the Others. Especially last season when Ecko and Jing were hiding in the undergrowth and a band of Others passed by, one carrying the bear with a rope or wire tied around it’s neck.
did anyone else catch the glimpse of the brown teddy bear the kid was carrying?
Karl also mentioned that the constellation was Ursa Theodoris or teddy bear.
I think that the teddy bear is a repository of DNA. It’s helps convert people into animals.
The most important thing of that entire episode was the last three seconds that Jack took to interact with Isabelle, she told him his tattoo translated to “He walks among us, but is not one of us”, to which he replies, “That’s what it says, but that’s not what it means”. Obviously, the storytellers (though poorly) are trying to make a connection to the meta-themes of the show.
I think the idea is that obviously, nothing is what it seems. This was the whole point of the episode: the others don’t live on Alcatraz, though it might have appeared that way, they are extremely civilized, though they have appeared otherwise, Jack is kind of dirty guy, though he appear rather clean cut and upstanding (Geez a roll in the sack with Bai Ling would make ANYONE dirty and gross). The multilayered nature of the series is basically outed in this episode in way that asks the viewers to be patient and thoughtful.
Despite that, I am totally stoked for the upcoming beach episodes. I’ve missed Sayid and Locke.
This show requires patience. As others have said, if all the answers were given, there wouldn’t be anything left!
As was also noted repeatedly, the “3 big answers” was ABC promo work, *not* Lost producers’ work… again, Cuse & Lindelhof both expressed disappointment at & disagreement with that promo.
Jack demanding the tat was totally in line with his character… he’s not exactly impulsive, but when he decides something (for any reason, good or bad), his mind is made up. Look: he was sure his Dad was having an affair with his wife, and look what that “knowledge” (without real foundation) led him to. There are other examples as well.
There are definitely episodes that I haven’t cared as much for, but this wasn’t one of them. The producers are always trying to walk the line between character-development and mythology-development, and I thought we got both in this ep, even though some apparently don’t like the fleshing out of things we “already know” about Jack (i.e. that he’s a leader). If Jack’s character is more than a connect-the-dots drawing, it’s important to paint in those subtleties.
Great episode. COntinuing with the ties to novels, Stranger in A Strange Land is one of my favorites. I think Jack is going to wind up teaching the Others more about themselves than they may want to know.
Well, I guess anything would seem a let down after Desmond’s episode, but that was a blah episode. They could have halved Jack’s flash back and given us a few more scenes of the Losties actually asking some REAL questions to the Others.
Karl says he’ll be killed in his own “back yard” if he goes back, but Sawyer has no inclination to ask where his back yard is or why he’d be killed?? Or what the heck was with the brainwashing room? I mean, come ON.
Here’s a question–has Alex actually ever referred to Ben as her dad? It seems like she calls him Ben and everyone else calls him her father.
I thought i was a fantastic episode yeah so ABC built it up into something it really wasnt but nonetheless this season is really really good, Im so sick of lost fans being like “im this close to not watching anymore” seriously then dont. Dont come here and post about how your not going to watch anymore because that just makes you look stupid (your on a lost blog site)its annoying. Great episode I dont care what anyone says
aww, we can’t edit comments anymore well I meant it instead of I. Im in to much of a hurry trying to get out the door for work.
A few questions:
Why would Bai Ling have tattooed Chinese letters on Jack if they were in Thailand and she was Thai?
Where the heck is Rousseau?
If Rousseau is Alex’s Mom and Ben is her Dad, did he adopt her when the Others kidnapped her or were Ben and Rousseau an item on the Black Rock ship?
Also, Vincent is back next week! I wonder what his deal is.
Im so sick of lost fans being like “im this close to not watching anymore” seriously then dont.
Ratings are down and dropping, so it’s not only me.
Don’t you think the advertisers notice this?
Decisions were made about how to proceed with this story that prevented it from being a tremendous success.
Once you just decide to enjoy the ride of Lost, then you like it much better and get much less stressed about how it lets you down. I think we’ve got to cut them some slack. I mean, this is a primetime network tv show that really makes people think and gets them totally swept up in this imaginary world, that has to count for something, doesn’t it? I think the whole “he walks among us, but isn’t one of us” was a really nice explanation for the tattoos. It speaks about Jack’s isolation in every situation that he finds himself in. Also, we saw the rest of the survivors! They’re alive and living the the others so that they can have a better life! Come on, that was a good bit of knowledge. As far as the scary sheriff goes, she’s got a real Cpt. Janeway vibe about her (sci fi geek alert). Intimidating but interesting and obviously full of secrets and information.
I agree with all, why don’t the characters ask the appropriate questions at the appropriate time? If I was a castaway, stuck just like these people, I would want to know as much as possible. To Carl, what was room 23 all about? How long have you been in there? Where exactly is these ‘homes’ with backyards? To Cindy, where have you been all this time? What are you going to ‘watch’? (OK someone already figured this out- Juliette’s trial) So that one’s answered. But notheless, I feel let down by certain episodes -this one too. But I will be back onboard next week.
Also, Vincent is back next week! I wonder what his deal is.
Woof, woof-woof, WOOF!!! =]
A few questions:

“they never answer anything! they never answer anything!”
Relax people, did you ever think that all of these little mysteries might all work together to end up with one very amazing explanation in the end? Part of the draw of this show is the mystery and the fun of trying to figure out what it all means… it makes me absolutely sick when people complain about not getting any answers. It wouldn’t be much of a show if they just gave away the surprise ending now would it?
I think Lost’s biggest mistake was separating Jack, Kate and Sawyer from the main group and switching the focus of the show to those 3 characters – believe it or not, writers, those 3 are NOT everyone’s favorite characters. I actually dislike all of them. So the season has been one big bummer for me.
They need to get back to Locke, Sayid, Jin&Sun, Hurley, Charlie… Remember all of those other characters? They each brought something interesting to the show, and I miss that ensemble feeling. I really just don’t care about the trio anymore, they have worn that storyline away. Kill them off if that is what it takes to bring the show back to its old charm.
Anyway. This episode was not that bad – though I found the whole Thai flashback incredibly boring. Though I do think the question of when this took place is interesting. I feel like it must be after Jack’s divorce, because he was there to “find himself” (in the Thai woman’s words, I believe) and to me that means that he’d been through something especially difficult in his life.
I was also disappointed in the disconnect between the flashback and the “current” scenes – usually there is some kind of connection and it really completes the feel of an episode. I just felt like this week’s was really disjointed and definitely missing something.
I really think the fact that Karl does not know about the Brady Bunch means that he has always been on the island. Which is especially interesting to me. Ever since Karl was being held in the cage across from Sawyer, I figured he was an outsider of some kind. I didn’t think that they would treat one of their own so badly – you saw what they did to Juliet in this episode.
So that raises the question – why was Karl locked up?
That’s all I’ve got for now – I’m going to have to rewatch it and come back later.
-Mabry
Did anyone notice during the one of Jack’s flashbacks last night that he appeared to be wearing the key around his neck when he was rolling around on the floor with Bai Ling? (that is, the key for the gun case, which I don’t think he’s worn for quite some time) This was the flashback in which he was dreaming and then woke up in the cage.
Maybe it was just another random necklace, but it looked a lot like what we’ve seen for several seasons now.
Seriously tired of the complaining…do you really think every episode is going to be the “best one ever”? Stop watching so that we can post comments about the ep. instead of reading nothing but whining.
Now…can anyone verify if the jewelry lady actress is the same actress as Isabell?
Did anyone else notice that Cindy didn’t seem to be afraid of the Others, but was actually one of them on her way to watch the trial?
What about the “gifted” girl? Is she Dharma or Hanso related.
Let’s talk about Lost!
A couple of things to put out there. First, the return of Cindy and the kids…we all assumed that the children were abducted (long ago in season 1) with malice or a sinister plan (which is still a possiblity) but it seems that maybe they were taken away and sent to safety, leaving the losties to do their social experiments on…as they said on last night’s episode the kids were taken to a ‘better place’. Second, Cindy herself: a Dharma plant on the plane? Put there to ‘watch’ and make sure everything went smoothly? Third, Jack’s trip to Thailand. If the plane was traveling north-east from Aussieland to L.A. and then turned around going west they would have crashed somewhere in the Pacific (perhaps not close to but in the area of Thailand) then MAYBE there is a connection between the island & Dharma to Thailand as a base in the “real” world, and that the tattoos actually have a connection to Dharma. What if she tattooed him with marks that were meant for Dharmists and the punks who beat Jack up on the beach are voicing local dislike for the group? I thought of this as the Others were going to “mark” Juliet, really thought they were going to mark her with something similar to Jack’s tats…somewhat disappointed it wasn’t. But we’ll have to wait and see.
For all you haters out there: this was a good episode, well written and full of details bound to come up in a future episode with the “shock-value” you all so seem to crave. Relax.
Yeah, i can verify that the jewlery lady(Ms. Hawking is NOT the same lady from last night(Isabel). I checked it out on Lostpedia and the Actress playing the parts had different names. The jewlery Lady’s real name is Fionnula Flanagan. And Isabel’s real name is Diana Scarwid. Hope this clears up the confustion. And i agree, stop the whining! True lost fans arent going to let this episode change how they feel about this incredible show. We gotta stay loyal and I’m sure we will get an incredible payoff. Dont lose your faith in this show. Next episodes we can finally reunite more with the other losties, and also, 2 episodes from now titled(Enter 77) was written by 2 of the creaters, so this should definitely be a winner.
Thanks Rola.
I don’t think anyone actually thought Ms Hawking and Isablel were the same actress (and if you did, are you blind?), but I think people might see them as the same CHARACTER, seperated only by age.
Also, nevermind my previous comment about Jack’s necklace in Thailand, it looks like a key, but it’s actually just a pendant of some sort.
In response to Eng, I don’t think we would learn much from the actual translation of the tattoo, at least in terms of the show, as it is Jack’s real life tattoo commemorating his role on the Fox show Party of Five and the writers of Lost decided to write it into the show.

Congrats to all posting with a positive outlook. LOST, is NOT real people. It’s for us to enjoy & ponder upon. Please, everyone relax & enjoy! As one poster already mentioned, if you just take the LOST ride you’ll gain so much more from the show as a whole.
I’m in New Zealand (close to the Island some have joked lol) and we just aired the ep with Eko’s death here last night. I have been downloading (naughty naughty) the eps from the states so I am right there with you guys watching along. However…as I just can’t get enough of watching LOST I reviewed Eko’s ep again last night anyways.
WOW…after having watched “Flashes” with Desmond – lets just say it’s an eye opener!! I think, that Eko went back & “visited” Yemi’s church & was RIGHT THERE. Eko seemed confused to be there & yes he was sad that Yemi had died on the plane but he was SO much more sad than Eko’s character should have been at that time in his life (ie. Pre Island.) Remember he was a SUPER badass.
Perhaps, we are getting more answers in the ep’s than we think & the creators are keeping in line with the idea that the characters can go back & change things in their past whilst on the island but… for some reason the character need to take a massive bump to the noggin to activate their journey back. All I’m saying is go back & watch “Flashes” then Eko’s death ep & see what you think. A pleasure reading everyone’s ideas as always.
The REAL Kate.
I re-watched this episode today on ABC.com. I picked up something I did not previously and hoped I still might get some comments on this episode.
When Jack confronted Cindy asking her why she would be with the people who took her she said “They’re not…it’s complicated”. I wonder if she was going to say “They’re not the ones who took me.” Just a thought.
Also, the kids with the Teddy Bear – Teddy looked pretty good – much better than the dirty, beaten up image we got of him in the jungle. And why would the kids be filthy and tramping through the jungle before when the Others could have taken them to a facility straight away? That all confuses me. Did someone else take them first and then the Others took them from them?
Does anyone know the significance of the symbol they branded Juliet with? Was it just a hydra like on the judges podium?
sam. My feeling is that the others we know about are the ones stealing kids. I feel that Cindy was a plant on the plane or has been brainwashed. As far as the bear, couple of explanations: 1) The bear got washed when the kids arrived at the others community or 2) It’s a different bear. We now know that the others were wearing costumes to appear primitive, but why would they make the kids they stole act primitive?
Aren’t we still waiting to meet the other-others that Ben talked about?
Thanks for the input Hammer, that is what I don’t understand – why they would trapse the kids around the jungle barefoot and filthy. Doesn’t add up.
In the first season, I read on this blog about plotting the “numbers” onto a connect four board (another game). When plotted thus, the points make the shape of the constellation commonly referred to as the “Big Dipper” or Ursa Major (Bear). I don’t have to point out the obvious connections with bears. Most interestingly though, soon after Kate and Sawyer escape, there is a conversation between Sawyer and Alex’s boyfriend where he talks about naming a star after Alex. Supposedly, this star is located inside of a constellation this guys knows as the teddy bear. In any case, it’s an interesting connection.
