An eerie hunch crept up on me as I was watching this episode, and here it is:

Sayid will come into conflict with Desmond, obviously – working with Ben will create this conflict, since Penny’s life will be at stake. Eventually, Desmond will appeal to Sayid, and Sayid will agree to Desmond & Penny ‘disappearing’. They will hide out or try to hide out on the island, perhaps using some of the technology on the island – and they’ll die there.
