On the Island
Jin is a Korean man and the husband of Sun. Because of the language and cultural barriers between him and the other castaways (he is the only non-English speaker of the group), he at first sought to isolate himself and his wife from the rest of the group. Since then, he has tried to reach out and make friends with some of them (partly through his fishing abilities), and shown himself to be a loving husband to Sun, but still has a short temper and struggles with possessiveness and distrust in their relationship.
Born the son of a poor fisherman in a rural Korean village, he sought through most of his youth to distance himself from his past out of shame. He came to Seoul to find a job as a hotel doorman and worked his way up the ladder, but ended up getting fired and finding his true love, Sun, instead. In order to prove to her influential father, Mr. Paik, that he is worthy of marrying her—he agrees to work for him. Little does he know then, but this job is more than a respectable 9-to-5. He now finds himself entrapped in employment as a hitman for his powerful and corrupt father-in-law. It also causes a rift in his relationship with Sun, as he struggles to hide secrets and neglects her. Adding to the problems, the couple is having problems conceiving a baby.
Reason for being on the Flight
Jin is given a watch by Mr. Paik, that he is told he must deliver to Los Angeles. He is threatened that he will be watched along the way.
